About the fund

Built to grow Alabama's water profession.

Established by the Alabama Rural Water Association Board of Directors and governed by a dedicated Scholarship Board, the fund opens doors into water and wastewater careers statewide.

The ARWA Board of Directors established a Scholarship Fund named the John A. Garrett Scholarship Fund. This fund was organized for educational promotion of water and wastewater related careers throughout the State. It provides an opportunity to support professional development in water and wastewater fields of expertise.

To insure continued growth in the number of certified water and wastewater operators in the State of Alabama, some of the scholarships are offered to individuals striving to enhance their professionalism by attending Alabama Water or Wastewater Operator Certification Courses for Grades I through IV certification examination preparation.

A legacy of service

The fund carries the name of John A. Garrett and continues through the generosity of donors and the annual John A. Garrett Golf Tournament, held alongside the Alabama Rural Water Association Annual Technical Training Conference. What began in 2002 has grown into hundreds of awards for water families across the Northern, Central, and Southern regions of Alabama.
